Tangle a Day Calendar 2016, March 19th, 20th and 21st

Hello friends

Oh, how I have missed tangling. I am going to have to figure out some kind of a routine where I can add Zentangle back into my days. Meanwhile, I have calendar pages to share here.

I am really liking Barullo - although for me it's a high-focus tangle until it's completely joined. I can mess it up so quickly!

Tangle a Day Calendar 2016, March 16th, 17th and 18th

Hello friends

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday! I got to open my 2017 Tangle a Day Calendar, it was under the tree with a tag that said To: ME, From: ME. Ha!

Today's share is a page where I just wanted to play with MI2 - it looks so different when you change up the size. On this example I think the clean and simple one is my favourite. Some people have a great way with MI2 and I really enjoy looking at their work. I don't have the same flow in mine but maybe that will come with practice.

Zentangle Tile #33

Hello friends

I have an older tile to share today - my Zentangle tile #33.

I almost always start my tile with a string ... and the string is often what inspires the tangles that I use. Verve and Flux are go-to tangles for me, I LOVE Yuma and I think this might have been my first attempt with Wud. Which I also really like.

Zentangle Tile #32

Hello friends

I managed to get a few posts ready for this blog yesterday. While I haven't done much tangling I still have older tiles and Tangle A Day Calendar pages to share. Hopefully it won't be so long between posts again!

This tile isn't a favourite but I wanted to try a couple of things and that is how you learn, right?

Tangle a Day Calendar 2016, March 13th, 14th and 15th

Hello friends

I know it's been a long time - and I really miss tangling. I'm fully recovered from my little surgery and even better than that my RA seems to be subsiding! Enough that I can get around without a walker or even a cane! I'm not very fast when I'm outside the house - but in the house you may not even notice my mobility issues. Ha - I can even put on socks and boots these days!

But all that mobility means I'm not sitting very much, and when I do sit I have things to do other than tangling. I'm not feeling the need for the 'zen' of Zentangle which is a good thing and bad at the same time. While I'm thrilled with my progress, I need to figure out some form of routine for my days and also include Zentangle in that routine.

I haven't even been able to keep up with my Tangle a Day Calendar - but I do have several months finished. I just need to photograph them so I can share them here. Meanwhile, here is a page from March 2016.

No new Tangling from me.

Hello friends

I brought my Zentangle supplies with me to Arizona, determined to continue keeping up with my Tangle A Day Calendar. And I did for awhile, but the sun sets early this time of year and lighting wasn't good enough in the evening to do any shading.

Then I had a sudden and severe gallbladder attack. Had to go to the hospital where they performed emergency surgery. It was my first real surgery, and having it in another country certainly added to the stress.

Afterwards I was too sore and unable to lean over to do any tangling at all. Never mind the pain pills knocked me for a loop for hours every day. There was a second hospital visit 5 days later, but now I've started to get better.

Our insurance wants me to have my post-op check-up back in Canada, so we are leaving here earlier than we planned and any spare time is being spent visiting friends we won't see for months, and packing up the house.

I'm sure when we get home, I'll be all healed up and I am SOOO ready to pick up my pens.

Oh a happy note, I ordered - and received - my 2017 Tangle A Day Calendar too. Haven't even cracked the wrapping, but ... ... so exciting!

Wish me happy healing,
Karen

Tangle a Day Calendar 2016, March 10th, 11th and 12th

Hello friends

I haven't had a chance to do any tiles in the last two weeks, and I've even fallen behind in my Tangle a Day Calendar. That needs to be remedied right quick. I miss it.

I also have to take photos of the pages up to mid October so I can get them posted. Meanwhile, here is a page from March.

Weekly Zentangle Video contribution

Hello friends

Today's tile was done for Jane Dickinson's Weekly Zentangle Video on Face Book, where the focus tangle is Onamato. Which I always thought had an R in it ... Ornamato.

I pencilled the string, then it all just fell into place. Love it when that happens!

Zentangle Tile #98

Hello friends

I've really enjoyed doing a little tangling daily this month in my Tangle A Day Calendar by Carole Ohl. Not entirely sure if I will get another one for next year, but it is fun to flip back and see completed art on each page. On the other hand, I'm not getting to do any tiles or challenges.

Had a reaction to medication this week, which meant quiet time in my chair. Which also meant some time for a tile.

Tangle a Day Calendar 2016, March 4th, 5th and 6th

Hello friends

Wow - it's been awhile since I've posted. Busy with moving the contents of our cabin into our (full!) house, then ... because why not ... out of town guests for just over a week.

The latter was good though, as it got us to FINALLY get our basement bathroom ready. We needed a new shower curtain and bar, a shower chair and some solid grab bars for our elderly guests. Done and done!

I haven't had a chance to work on any tiles or participate in challenges, but so far this month I've been able to keep up with at least tangling in my Tangle A Day Calendar. Today's share is a page from March 2016.

Zentangle Tile #97

Hello friends

I drew this tile, my Zentangle Tile #97 - just for fun. I'd been having some really good days with my RA and whether or not I over did it or the fact that I've thrown in the towel and after two years I'm eating gluten again ... but I hurt.

So there has been lots of time sitting in my chair and lots of time for Zentangle. It's amazing how it makes the pain disappear while I'm tangling.

Other than Pokeroot, all the tangles were new to me. And quite enjoyable!

Tangle a Day Calendar 2016, March 1st, 2nd and 3rd

Good morning friends

So far we are 5 days into September and I have managed to work on my Tangle A Day Calendar September pages each day! Hope I can keep it up. I was very satisfied when I finished off the July pages - doing a little each day helped the chaos of moving a little easier to manage.

Today I'd like to share the first page of March 2016. Sometimes I do the whole page as a single tangle and other times, like with this one - each day has it's own distinct square.

Diva's Challenge "Spill It"

Good morning friends

Today I have a tile to share for the Diva Challenge #282. While Laura used beet juice for her spill - which tuned out fabulous - I have about zero energy and the most I could come up with was yesterday's coffee for my spill. The only reason I had leftover coffee at all, is that I made a big pot for the friends who were helping us move our belongings out of our mountain cabin yesterday. Otherwise I'm sure I would have to pass on this one.

I think it looks pretty the way it is, and I know I will want to do this again. Just the look of the different shapes was inspiring to me.

I  don't usually have a pre-conceived notion of what I'm going to do when I start a Zentangle tile and this was no exception. I'm happy with how it turned out, and I especially like Trelina, Eni Oken's newest Tangle.

The tenants get the keys tomorrow, and while I have so many boxes and bags to unpack and go through the pressure will be off. Packing up a house in 3 weeks makes for a CRAZY three weeks, and the stress is doing a number on my RA. Taking some tangling time is helping for sure.

Zentangle Tile #93

Good morning friends

I had to try putting different patterns in each sections of the crazy Huggins. It's pretty busy, but i still had to try it. It was lots of fun to do, but I'm not crazy about the chaotic look to the tile. Crazy Huggins though is showing up in all my Zentangle these days. I haven't got it right yet, but I'm sure having fun trying.

I wondered what would happen if I added bands of colour and I like the tile much better this way. From a Zentangle Tile to a ZIA with just a few strokes of colour. (I used Prismacolor Pencils.)

Zentangle Tile #91

Hello friends

It was good to get some Zentangle time in this week. With RA you have very limited energy, and what I do have has been spent on doing our Year End (ug) and packing. Because of RA, I can no longer enjoy our cabin in the mountains and we had an opportunity to rent it out for a year. With like 3 weeks notice. We were hoping they would take it fully furnished but they have two cats and were concerned with the leather items. So we will be moving about 1/3 of the furniture and ALL of our personal belongings.

I'm not a lot of help, I'm afraid ... but I can go for 5 minutes, then rest for 15 then go again. So at least I feel like I'm contributing. Hubby is running around doing the work of 3 people. I love that man.

Since I need the downtime, I wanted to participate in Adele Bruno's It's A String Thing Challenge #158.

While Drogon isn't completely new to me, I haven't used it on a tile before. Then we were to use our 'mac and cheese' tangles ... our 'go to' tangles. I couldn't think of any other than Flux! However, I did add a few tangles that I have been seeing around and completed the tile with the challenge string. Ha - the string disappeared which is always fun in the end. There is a pretty big OOPS with Drogon but I'm ignoring it.  :-)

IAST #156 ... Happy 3rd Birthday!

Good morning friends

Today I'd like to share my Zentangle Tile #90, which was done for Adele Bruno's It's A String Thing #156.  It's a special week, as it is IAST's 3rd birthday! Adele had a very appropriate string for us this week, AND it could be done as a single stroke. I love those single stroke tangles & strings!

Because it's such a special challenge, I decided to use one of my coloured tiles! (See THIS post for more information). All of the tangles were new to me, and I admit to taking a little liberty with Onomato by inserting Orbs la Dee inside it's outer edges. Sort of a combination of the two. Then, I added C02 for some celebratory sprinkles.

Zentangle Tile #84

Good morning friends

Today's share is a tile I gave to a friend who recently had here 51st (!!!) surgery. She is sporting a brand new knee and recovering fabulously. I popped by for a quick visit and brought her a hand made card as well as this tile.

When she had her other knee replaced back in December, I had mentioned Zentangle to her as she is a go-getter and having to rest and recover would be difficult for her. I believe she did dabble in it, but found her zen in colouring. At any rate, I knew she would understand what this drawing was and have an appreciation for it.

As I said to her, there are a few oopses from elbow bumps and turbulence as I drew this on the flight down to Arizona. But there are no mistakes in Zentangle, right?

It's A String Thing #155

Hello friends

Today I have a tile to share for Adele Bruno's 'It's A String Thing', #155. The challenge tangles are Cadent, Bales and the new-to-me tangle Z-Trik.

Once the tile was finished it was calling for colour so I pulled out my coloured pencils and just went for it. Who me? And surprisingly, I like the added colour!

While I still really REALLY like the black ink on a white tile, it was fun to spread my wings a little on this one. I also discovered how much fun Z-Trik is going to be.

Tangle a Day Calendar 2016, February 19th, 20th & 21st

Hello friends

Today's share is another February page from my 2016 Tangle A Day Calendar by Carol Ohl. I've actually been able to work on my Calendar a little while we've been away - but I'm terrible about taking the photos!

Hubby took me to Michaels here in Arizona this week - I wanted to go because they were having a BOGO sale on their planner stuff. You may not know that I'm a bit of a planner addict. I've used a planner in some form for the past 30 years - for many of those, I printed my own every year so I could customize it. While I didn't need to shop for another PLANNER, I did want to look at the accessories.

Found a fabulous soft sided case meant to hold planners & supplies but I bought it for my Zentangle supplies. All my pens, tiles, magnifying glass, the Tangle A Day Calendar or the Tangle Me This! Sketchbook, notebook etc etc - everything fits in. It looks great and has a carrying handle too - I'm happy!

Zentangle Tile #74 and Petal Envelope

Good morning friends

Earlier this Spring I ordered some Zentangle stencils from Acadia Laser Creations on Etsy. One of the stencils in the package was for this cool tile sized (3-1/2") Petal Envelope.

Once I finished my 74th tile, I decided to finally try out the envelope and get it ready to send to a friend with a card. It worked like a charm!

Here is a photo of the completed tile with the (empty) closed envelope ...

... and the tile IN the envelope ...

... and here is the envelope all closed up. I've used these many times for cards, but never thought to do one for a Zentangle tile. The stencil made it so easy.

Finally here is my Zentangle tile #74.

Zentangle Tile #82

Good morning friends

Today's share is my Zentangle tile #82.

Because my mobility is still so restricted with my RA, I sat in our car while hubby ran some errands and picked up groceries for us. While I was waiting, I worked on one of my coloured tiles.

Taxi is a new Tangle for me, but I didn't draw it correctly. Which means I will try it again soon because I think there is a lot of potential with it. Actually other than Nzepple - all the tangles on this tile are new to me.

I'm not overly happy with this one - but it sure helped pass the time and it was fun working on new tangles.

Zenetangle Tile #83

Hello friends

I'm having a slow afternoon, so decided to join in on Jane Dickinson's Weekly Zentangle Tangle Video. This week the focus tangle is FINERY - one I really like.

I like to start my tiles with a string and this one is no exception. The string 'told' me where to add what tangles & the whole process was very Zen.

Tagh makes me happy now ... considering that I wasn't keen on it the first time around - it keeps sneaking in on my tiles.

Tangle a Day Calendar 2016, February 16th, 16th & 18th

Hello friends

For those that don't know, I have a card-making blog (Altered Scrapbooking) and I've been busy making card samples with Karen Burniston's upcoming die release for Elizabeth Craft Designs. They were good enough to FedEx me the dies so I'd be able to have booth samples done.  I have been able to be creative, just not with Zentangle. :-)

However, today I am sharing another February page from my Tangle A Day Calendar by Carol Ohl ...

Card samples are finished (SUCH a fun release people ... such a fun release) and I am going to have them packaged up tonight. A retailer friend is going to the trade show (in Salt Lake City) and is going to deliver the samples for me to the Elizabeth Craft Designs Booth. I expect to get back to Zentangle soon.

Tangle a Day Calendar 2016, February 13th, 14th & 15th

Good morning friends

Today's share is another February page in my 2016 Tangle A Day Calendar by Carol Ohl.

We were just on a family holiday on the BC Coast, where I tried in vain to find a CTZ that was teaching a class. I did get a lot of tangling in though! I was in a great deal of pain and there were days where my mobility was severely limited. Those days I sent the family off to do fun things and I sat at the table with my tiles and my calendar.

The weather was not conductive to taking photos though. I'll have to get my March pages photographed soon.

Today I have an ATC to share, that I tangled on one of my colourful backgrounds. Click HERE to see all nine of the backgrounds. I used the top centre piece, which is also an official Zentangle product.

Adele Bruno's It's A String Thing Challenge last week included the tangle DEX which was new to me. I could not make the rest of the challenge tangles play nicely together, so didn't participate in the challenge ... but I did want to try DEX.

Zentangle Tile #76

Hello friends

I have a Zentangle tile to share today. We were on vacation on the BC coast, but unfortunately the condo we rented turned out to be a second floor unit (hubby's mistake). I was in a lot of pain from doing the stairs, and there were a couple of days where I had to remain behind and send the rest of the family off to have fun.

Always able to entertain myself, I managed a couple of tiles AND a few pages in my Tangle A Day Calendar. Have to say though, the lighting has been terrible - lots of gloomy days. Not a problem for having fun but definitely a problem for photographing my calendar pages. Even the tile photos are a little off, but I'm going to share them anyhow.  Today is my tile #76:

Zentangle Tile #75

Good morning friends

The Diva has a new challenge this week ... Weekly Challenge #271. She used a technique called 'Hefty Hack' to add colour to her tile before starting to tangle. Being a card maker however, I used a technique we stampers been doing for ages - and I simply added colour to my acrylic block with dye inks and spritzed it with water before pressing it onto the tile.

I did use official Zentangle tiles, because they are made of such beautiful paper. And they took the water really well! I even tried pressing two tiles together face to face when one tile ended up more than a little wet. Worked like a charm. I used my heat gun to dry the tiles.

Colour! I can't believe I am going to try Zentangle on a coloured tile! I was on a bit of a roll and ended up adding colour to 9 tiles and two official ATC's. They turned out so pretty!

Have to say though, I am not emotionally ready for the challenge "Beads of Courage" so instead I worked with the colours Laura provided. I thought I might do a BEad INSPIRED  tile later in the week, but have decided to take the high road and leave it be. Thus my Zentangle tile #75 will be for the Diva's challenge this week.

It was a lot of fun doing a tile on a coloured background - and I will enjoy using the rest of my coloured pieces too. I chose the most subdued one of the bunch for my first attempt (2nd from the top right)
